The ladies of The View can’t seem to agree on Joe Biden‘s latest political move. The co-hosts of the beloved daytime show recently weighed in on the president’s recent pardon for his son, Hunter Biden, over felony gun and tax evasion charges. However, the debate got intense when co-host Whoopi Goldberg had to shut down her colleague Alyssa Griffin.
Goldberg started the heated segment, expressing her support for Joe Biden’s decision. “I mean, I get it. We got a convicted felon as a president,” she quipped before listing out several of Donald Trump‘s pardons during his first term.
“It is the president’s prerogative. That’s what presidents do every time. They do it every time, they pardon somebody, so I’m not sure why the pearl-clutching is happening now.”
However, Griffin disagreed with her co-host’s opinion, citing a personal experience with a close family member. She then slammed President Biden for seemingly abusing his power. “This feeds the notion to a lot of this country that there’s simply a different set of rules for those in power,” she said. Griffin then shared that she particularly took issue with the president “lying.” Recall that Joe Biden, on multiple occasions, especially through the White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, declared he would never pardon Hunter.
“This is why people don’t trust Washington, this is why they don’t trust politicians. I know a lot of us like Joe Biden, but I find it disappointing and bad for our institutions.”
Fans Slam ‘Hypocrite’ Alyssa Griffin For Her Opinion
Fellow co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Anna Navarro sided with Goldberg, supporting Biden’s move. Hostin, a former prosecutor, argued that she didn’t think Hunter would have been prosecuted if his last name wasn’t Biden. Navarro, who once urged the president to pardon his son, shared the same view, saying:
“So many of the people who committed this crime do not get prosecuted. Imagine the guilt Joe Biden has to live with thinking that his son, his only surviving son, is getting prosecuted because he is his son.”
However, Griffin, who previously worked for Trump’s communications team, doubled down on her stance of calling President Biden a liar. “Why lie about it for so long?” she declared before Goldberg interjected, defending the president. “I’d stop calling it a lie,” she slammed before adding:
“I think Biden had no intentions of pardoning Hunter. I think the more stuff went down, he said, why am I busting my behind to stay straight and do this when no one else is doing it?”
Griffin, however, insisted on her viewpoint, and some fans of the talk show didn’t appreciate that. “Alyssa? Lying to the public? That’s rich coming from the party you represent,” one viewer slammed.
“Alyssa is full of it! Her attitude and comments have done a complete 360 since DT won,” a second comment read.
“Alyssa’s pearl-clutching is ridiculous. I couldn’t have rolled my eyes further back in my head,” a third fan penned.
“Alyssa trying to get back into the Republican Party makes me Sick! Her True Self is coming out,” another comment read.
Alyssa Griffin stands as the only conservative co-host on The View, following in the footsteps of Meghan McCain. The road ahead is undoubtedly filled with more intense arguments such as these. Hopefully, she doesn’t suffer the same fate.
