Cromer, in Norfolk, has been voted one of the UK’s best seaside towns by Which? Magazine but Sheringham which is just 10 minutes away is much better, locals say.
While Sheringham isn’t the place that tourists head to in Norfolk, many have suggested it should be.
The seaside town is known for its fishing heritage and has plenty of places for holidaymakers to visit.
The town is less overcrowded and has views which are just as good. In the early 20th century Sheringham attracted the wealthy and famous but since then its popularity has declined.
Locals are unable to understand why Cromer is now more popular.
One local said: “Sheringham’s whole vibe is so much better than Cromer, but most holidaymakers head to Cromer for reasons us locals can’t understand! Sheringham’s beach feels more upmarket, is clean, and has more interesting little corners to explore.”
If you are heading to Sheringham and looking for somewhere to grab a bite to eat, Marmalade’s Bistro is the number one place to go.
The restaurant is small and charming with reasonable prices and welcoming hosts.
One diner said: “We had another amazing culinary experience at Marmalade’s. The food is superb quality and the place has a lovely vibe. All the staff are really cheerful and make you feel truly welcome. Prices are not too bad either! We will be back.”
For somewhere to stay, the Burlington Berties hotel is located just 300 metres away from the beach.
One guest said: “What a fabulous find the Burlington Berties was! We had such a wonderful stay, everything from the moment we arrived was perfect. Yvonne & Sally are such lovely hosts & a big shout to their team.
“Having been in hospitality for most of my life it was such a joy to find this place where everything was excellent. To visit Sheringham it’s a great base for exploring the pretty villages and a must to enjoy the Poppy Steam Train into the lovely town of Holt.”
