The pretty city that’s one of Europe’s most walkable destinations | Travel News | Travel

Looking for holiday inspiration? A pretty city in one of Europe’s most underrated holiday destinations could be the ideal spot.

Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia, is a beautiful spot that sits on the banks of the Ljubljanica River. A small city, it’s incredibly walkable and easy to explore on foot.

The Slovenian gem is one of Europe’s most eco-friendly cities and was once the European Green Capital. It has a widely used bicycle sharing system which is a great way to explore if you don’t want to walk.

Ljubljana’s compact size means it’s easy to get around the city in just a weekend and it’s particularly pretty in spring.

So what is there to do in Ljubljana?

The city’s Old Town is its prettiest neighbourhood and one of the best areas to explore on foot. A tourist ‘CDocking’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “A lovely city with a big cafe society and car free old town.”

Ljubljana Castle overlooks the city and getting to the top will offer tourists some of the best views of the Slovenian capital.

Tourists might want to take the funicular to reach the top of the hill and will have to pay to access the viewing points.

Ljubljana has a thriving cafe culture and one of the best ways to spend a day is cafe hopping from one cosy spot to another.

In spring and summer, many of the city’s best bars overlook the riverside with great people watching views.

Tivoli Park is one of the city’s prettiest green spaces and it’s just a short walk from the city centre on the outskirts of Ljubljana.
