Netflix’s upcoming limited series, The Perfect Couple, takes a dark turn in its first teaser trailer, showcasing a lavish wedding gone wrong. Based on Elin Hilderbrand’s bestselling novel of the same name, the series stars Nicole Kidman and promises a suspenseful blend of murder, family drama, and the secrets that lurk beneath the surface of a seemingly idyllic life.

The trailer opens with a glimpse of the picture-perfect world Amelia Sacks (Eve Hewson) is about to enter. She’s marrying into a prominent Nantucket family, the Winburys, and everything appears to be meticulously planned for the “premiere wedding of the season.” Lavish decorations, a stunning gown, and the excitement of a new chapter are all on display. However, a chilling discovery shatters this facade of bliss.
A body is found washed up on the beach, casting a dark shadow over the wedding festivities. Instead, suspicion and a desperate search for answers take center stage. As the trailer hints, “secrets come to light,” setting the stage for a real-life investigation that mirrors the gripping stories penned by Amelia’s favourite author, Greer.
Kidman portrays Greer Garrison Winbury, the groom’s sophisticated mother, who stands at the heart of the unfolding drama. Liev Schreiber plays Tag Winbury, the groom’s father, whose nonchalant reaction to the news of a body raises questions about his involvement. The trailer offers glimpses of police questioning, with detectives scrutinizing Greer and the Winbury family dynamic.

The idyllic world of wealth and privilege crumbles as the investigation intensifies. Dakota Fanning appears briefly, delivering a cryptic message to Amelia: “The key to this family is to just stay on the periphery where it’s safe.” This line hints at hidden tensions and the potential danger lurking beneath the surface of the seemingly perfect Winbury family.
“We never know what’s going on in someone’s mind really. No matter how close you are,” Kidman’s character remarks in the trailer.
Joining the powerhouse duo of Kidman and Schreiber is a talented ensemble cast. Billy Howle, Jack Reynor, Ishaan Khatter (who appears briefly at the end of the trailer towards the end), Meghann Fahy, and Sam Nivola round out the cast alongside veteran actors like Michael Beach and Donna Lynne Champlin.
Director Susanne Bier helms the project, directing all six episodes and serving as an executive producer alongside showrunner Jenna Lamia. Fans of Hilderbrand’s work can look forward to her involvement as an executive producer, ensuring the series captures the novel’s essence. Additional executive producers include Shawn Levy for 21 Laps Entertainment, Gail Berman and Hend Baghdady for The Jackal Group, Kidman and Per Saari for Blossom Films, and Josh Barry.
