To build this habit, I plan to set small, achievable goals, including practising five minutes of daily meditation, establishing phone-free zones in my bedroom and dining room, pausing for a moment of gratitude at the end of each day, and doing some breath work when I feel overwhelmed.
I know this journey won’t be perfect, but that’s OK: presence is a practice, not a performance. The gift of presence is that it allows us to connect more deeply, both with others and with ourselves. So, this year, instead of striving for productivity or perfection, I’m choosing connection and presence, even when it’s messy. After all, life is happening right now, and I don’t want to miss it.

I will be cultivating diversity on my plate in 2025
As someone who is passionate about nutrition, I’ve long appreciated the role of food in health. But this year, I want to focus on diversity: not just in what I eat but in how I support the 38 trillion microbes that call my gut home, knowing that if I support them, they’ll reward me.

Emerging research highlights the importance of microbial diversity for long-term health, linking it to improved immunity, lower inflammation and better overall resilience. One key strategy? Eating 30 different plant foods weekly to provide a variety of prebiotic fibres that fuel beneficial gut bacteria.
To further support my gut health, I’ll also commit to incorporating probiotic-rich fermented foods into my daily routine. Foods like sauerkraut, kimchi and yoghurt deliver live, beneficial bacteria that work synergistically with prebiotics to promote a healthier gut ecosystem and to lower inflammation.
Here’s how I plan to make this habit stick:
- Track my variety: I’ll keep a weekly list of plant-based foods I eat, aiming for at least 30 unique items. This exercise keeps me mindful and encourages creativity.
- Daily ferments: A serving of fermented foods will become a staple at every meal, whether it’s a dollop of kimchi on my rice bowl or a spoonful of yoghurt with breakfast.
- Supplement for support: Alongside a diverse, plant-rich diet, I’ll take a prebiotic supplement to further care for my gut. I look for clinically proven supplements that are third-party tested and and are transparent about processes and ingredients. (I start my day with Daily Microbiome Nutrition by 38TERA.)
- Share the journey: Cooking and eating with friends and family provides a chance to introduce more variety and to enjoy the benefits together.

I’m going to stop opening texts until I’m ready to reply
How often have you glanced at a message while out and about, only to forget it until 1am, when you sit bolt upright, fumbling for a notepad to jot down a reminder? Surely, it’s not just me.
2024 was incredible but chaotic – a whirlwind of achievements and challenges. I moved away from Sydney for training, won gold at my fourth Olympics, co-founded Earthletica, got engaged in Venice, moved back to Bondi (goodbye, Canberra winters), became a godparent and got accepted into Techstars, a start-up accelerator.
Juggling so much inevitably led to dropped balls – late email replies, months-long gaps between seeing friends and endless games of calendar Tetris. Through it all, I discovered that structure is the antidote to a busy mind.
This habit is about creating intentional spaces for different parts of my life. In a world where we’re always reachable, with work and life blending into one endless stream of notifications, it’s vital to create boundaries.
In 2025, this habit means:
- Using tech to stay focused: Activate “focus” and “do not disturb” modes on my phone to carve out undistracted blocks of time.
- Making time for connection: Friends and family are my fuel. I’ve started fortnightly Thursday dinners to host and connect with people I don’t see as often.
- Leave them on unread: Resist the urge to skim messages when I’m not ready to reply. Work emails, friend texts or any non-urgent notifications can wait until I have the headspace to respond fully.
This mindset helps me switch between roles – founder, athlete, friend – with more intention and less stress.
Bring on the 2025 juggling act!
