The breathtaking Italian holiday destination only Italians know | Travel News | Travel

Italy is many Britons’ dream holiday destination. With world-class cuisine, gorgeous beaches and UNESCO World Heritage sites, it’s not hard to see why.

However, some of the country’s top destinations such as Rome have become a little overcrowded in recent years.

Venice is so busy that the city has even introduced a new charge for tourists visiting for the day.

But that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few more secret spots worth discovering. The expert team at HomeToGo has unveiled the country’s best destinations that British tourists don’t know about.

Isola del Giglio in Tuscany is searched for frequently by Italian tourists using the platform but barely registered with Britons.

Giglio Island sits just off the Tuscan coast and is reachable from the mainland via two ferry routes.

The island’s small port is a pretty coloured village and during the summer tourists will find the bars and restaurants are open all evening.

Of course, the island’s main attractions are its gorgeous beaches, famed for crystal clear water and beautiful views.

A tourist ‘Nadsvoyage’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “The first little harbour is so picturesque with little restaurants and boutiques.”

‘Cctgrt i’ wrote: “Stunning island with so much to see! Highlights are the medieval village of Giglio Castello, the beautiful beach and clear waters in Giglio Campese and the pretty Giglio Porto where the ferries arrive from the mainland.”

Tourists that want to stay on the Italian mainland can easily visit the island for the day as the main sights are all reachable on foot.
