Last year I decided to invest in a coffee machine. I’d wanted one for ages and decided that Black Friday was the perfect time to invest in one.
I opted for the Phillips L’Or Barista Coffee machine, which comes with a milk frother and two nozzles that the coffee spouts out of (room to make two espressos or a large latte). The early Christmas present has been well-used since the day it arrived, and honestly, I couldn’t be without a coffee machine now.
The black machine is a good buy for novices as it is easy to use. It is a pod machine so there’s no faffing around grinding coffee machines, thankfully it comes with a pack of pods so no need to order some straight away.
After making my first two coffees, I got the hang of it. The coffee tastes as if it’s been brewed in a coffee shop – perfectly blended with warm frothy milk adding a luxurious smoothness.
Typically the coffee machine has an RRP of £174.99. I bought it last November for £99 on Amazon. However, it’s now cheaper than last year’s Black Friday offering at £94.99 – a saving of £80.
It has been reduced as part of Amazon’s Prime Day sales. Prime members can take advantage of exclusive offers for 24 hours only, with savings on everything from kitchen devices, beauty, tech, electronics, and everything in between.
The machine offers the option to whip up a double espresso or two singles simultaneously, and it’s designed to work with both double and single espresso capsules, including Nespresso. The model includes a black cup that affixes to the machine’s base for milk frothing – there’s also a sieve tray that slots into the base for excess water collection.
I am not a morning person on the best of days, but the routine of firing up the machine and enjoying a proper coffee feels like a treat every day. I also love how the smell of the coffee fills up my kitchen.
The machine is compatible with L’OR Barista double-shot capsules and L’OR Espresso single-shot capsules. The pods are available to buy in bulk on Amazon for £22.40 (down from £30 for Amazon Prime Day), or you can buy capsules directly from the L’OR website for £24, also down from £30.
The exact same machine is also available at Currys at a reduced price, although it is a few more pounds expensive £99, down from £175. Alternatively, you can buy the same machine without the attached milk frother for £49.99, down from £109.99 on Amazon now.
It has the same features, looks and functionality except you don’t get a frother with it. It is also on sale for £59.99 at Currys.
Meanwhile, over on John Lewis, you can buy a TASSIMO machine for £69.99. It is compatible with Costa pods, as well as pods from other brands such as L’OR and Kenco.
