THERE’S a coastal train journey in the UK where waves have been known to crash against the windows – and tickets are just £5.
Gazing out of the window is one of the best ways to kill time on flights or train journeys, with some routes much more enjoyable than others.

While the UK is home to plenty of famous landmarks and top attractions, it also has some breathtaking train routes, which make the journey its very own experience.
The Riviera Line runs from Exeter City Centre down to Paignton (a seaside town in Devon).
According to Scenic Rail Britain, the route has been dubbed “one of England‘s best-loved stretches of railway.”
The train departs from Exeter city centre before pootling along the Exe Estuary.
After leaving the views of the Exe Estuary behind, the train reaches the UK coastline.
On its route, the train stops at traditional seaside towns like Dawlish and Teignmouth.
When the train passes from Dawlish, passengers will be treated to scenic coastal views.
In 2014, YouTube user Apexnewspix posted a video showing the train passing through the coastal town during a storm.
The footage showed waves crashing against the train’s windows as it moved along its coastal route.
Despite the video, the route isn’t recommended in stormy weather conditions or at high tide.
For the best views, holidaymakers should board the train in the summer months.
During the peak season, passengers will be able to stare out the window at sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters.
Adult off-peak day return tickets between Exeter Central and Dawlish start from as little as £5.30.
The coastal train journey isn’t the only reason Brit holidaymakers should head to Dawlish next summer.
Earlier this year, Cofton Holidays in Dawlish opened a brand-new water attraction.
The splash pad was designed with the look and feel of a forested woodland area.
It featured nine woodland run posts, two drencher buckets, a forest splash twin tipper, one water spray shooter canon, and several water sprinklers.
While the water attraction closed in October for the winter, it is hoped that it’ll reopen next summer.
Other nearby attractions in Dawlish include Dawlish Warren, which is a Blue Flag beach backed by sand dunes and small lakes.
There’s also Splashdown Quaywest – the UK’s largest outdoor water park.
Another train route that people in the UK love is the East Coast train line between Durham and Edinburgh, with coastal views and city landscapes among the sights that can be seen out the window.
Newcastle, Berwick, Lindisfarne, and Durham Cathedral are all among the highlights on that route.
