Terrifying moment man ‘tries to abduct child in pram’ off the street in broad daylight as cops launch urgent manhunt

THIS is the terrifying moment a man tried an “attempted kidnap of a Jewish child” in broad daylight as police have launched an urgent manhunt.

CCTV footage posted by north London’s Jewish neighbour watch group Shomrim shows the “horrific attack”.

The clip shows an Orthodox father fighting to save his child sitting in a pram as a man appears to try get control of the stroller.

The man walks up to the father as the pair are walking in opposite directions outside the headquarters of an Orthodox sect in Stamford Hill last Thursday.

He then tries to grab the handles of the pram and shove the father out of the way.

The kidnapper reaches around the father and grabs hold as he bravely fights to keep control of the pram.

The pair then walk off to the right of the CCTV footage tussling to take control of the pram with the father’s hat, a kippah, falling off.

Several seconds later the father comes back intro frame holding the pram without the attempted kidnapper and picks his kippah back up and leaves.

Twenty seconds later the attempted kidnapper walks back across the CCTV frame without the pram but holding his hands out with his palms facing up.

Shomrim said that “witnesses believe this was a racist attack”.

The Met said in a statement that the man was arrested on suspicion of assault after he had been detained by members of the public.

They said: “At 12:00hrs on Thursday, 13 June police were called to the junction of Stamford Hill and Northfield Road in Hackney.

“Members of the public had detained a man in relation to an assault that had taken place about 15 minutes earlier.

“The man was arrested on suspicion of common assault. He was later released on bail.

“The identity of the victim of the alleged assault was initially not known, but he has since come forward.

“Footage of the incident has been shared online.

“This investigation is ongoing and the motives of the suspect will be kept under consideration.

“Anyone who witnessed it and has not yet spoken to the police is asked to call 101 or message @MetCC on X, giving the reference 3053/13JUN24.

“Information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
