Terengganu cop pleads not guilty to stealing motorcycle engine

KUALA TERENGGANU: A police corporal pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing a motorcycle engine at the Sessions Court here.

Sinar Harian reported that the 32-year-old accused corporal who works at the Chukai Police Station, claimed trial for the charge of stealing a motorcycle engine in July.

According to the charge sheet, he is accused of stealing the motorcycle engine belonging to a woman, from the side of the Kemaman District Police Headquarters’ traffic investigation office building, between 12:45am and 1:15am on July 20.

He was charged under Section 379A(1) of the Penal Code for motor theft, which carries an imprisonment of between one and seven years, and a fine if convicted.

Police Prosecution Officer Muhammad Afif Mohd Amir prosecuted, while the accused was represented by lawyer Masliela Ismail.

Masliela appealed for bail to be reduced, citing that the accused, a low-wage earner is married and has a family dependent on him.

Sessions Judge Wan Suhaila Mohd set bail at RM800 with one surety and fixed Nov 27 for case mention.
