Targeted diesel subsidy: Stern action on school bus operators who raise fares, warns PM

PUTRAJAYA: School bus operators have been cautioned against increasing their fees or risk having action taken against them, warns Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said the government had implemented targeted diesel subsidies where certain groups such as fishermen and smallholders still enjoyed the benefit.

“As for school bus operators, let me warn you – you are still given diesel subsidies, but if you still hike your fees, you should be careful.

“We will revoke your licences,” he said to thunderous applause during the Madani Aspiration Gathering at Putrajaya International Convention Center (PICC) here on Friday (June 14).

Earlier this week, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said express bus and school bus operators should not raise fares following the implementation of targeted diesel subsidies in the peninsula on Monday (June 10).

He said this is because the diesel subsidy continues to be given to them through fleet cards under the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS).
