Tanushree Dutta Calls Hema Committee Report ‘Useless,’ Blames Nana Patekar, Dileep as ‘Narcissistic Psychopaths’

Tanushree Dutta has voiced her disappointment at the report by the Justice K Hema Committee, underlining the absence of substantial steps taken towards curbing the ongoing issues of women’s harassment in cinema.

Bollywood actress Tanushree Dutta isn’t afraid to voice her opinion about addressing sexual misbehaviour in the Bollywood industry. Recently, she opened up about her perspectives on the Justice K Hema Committee’s findings on sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry during a chat with News 18. According to Tanushree, she wasn’t all too pleased with the report and viewed it as lacking impact. Furthermore, she pinned the Vishakha Committee, formerly known as the Women’s Grievances Committee – an initiative combating workplace sexual harassment, as somewhat ineffective too.

The diva recently reacted to the Hema Committee and said, “What’s the point of this new report anyway? All they had to do was arrest the accused and enforce a strong law and order system. I remember hearing about the Vishakha Committee, which came up with so many guidelines and prepared pages and pages of reports, but what happened after that? The names of the committees just keep changing.”

She further stated, “People like Nana and Dileep are narcissistic psychopaths. There’s no cure for them. Only a vicious and vengeful man can do what they did. I don’t care about these committees. I have no trust in this system. It feels like these reports and committees, they’re just wasting our time rather than doing the real work. Having a safe workplace is a basic right for a woman — or any human being, for that matter.”

What Is Hema Committee Report?

The Women In Cinema Collective pleaded for the formation of a committee in the wake of a distressing 2017 incident. During this event, a female Malayalam actress suffered a sexual ambush in Kochi while traveling in her vehicle. Dileep, a recognized figure in the cinema industry, found his name entangled in the disgraceful episode.

Tanushree’s Equation with Nana Patekar

Tanushree had accused Nana Patekar of sexual harassment during the production of ‘Horn Ok Please’ back in 2008. During this time, she was heavily criticized by colleagues in the Bollywood industry as well as political figures. Meanwhile, Nana Patekar denied all these allegations vehemently. The incident resurfaced in 2018 during India’s MeToo movement when Tanushree decided to discuss it again, highlighting how her career suffered adversely after she blew the whistle on her harassment ordeal on the movie set.
