Sundowns superstar breaks silence on Rulani

Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns dramatically parted ways with coach Rulani Mokwena in July. Here’s the reaction from Themba Zwane.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS STAR THEMBA ZWANE ON RULANI MOKWENA EXIT

The tears have dried. Rulani Mokwena is no longer the head coach at Kabo Yellow. The 37-year-old from Soweto has joined Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca. One of his beloved players at Sundowns was Themba Zwane.

“Obviously as players after seeing the news, we had to encourage one another, try to support one another, knowing for sure that decisions are made in football and we try to respect the decision of the team,” Zwane said via SABC Sport.

“Try to encourage the guys that the coach still remains the same, we still want to win all the trophies that we’re competing for and I feel like the mood is fine and the brotherhood,” the Sundowns ace concluded.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS SIGN KOBAMELO KODISANG

Mamelodi Sundowns ace Themba Zwane has admitted he was suprised to find Kobamelo Kodisang signing for Kabo Yellow.

The 24-year-old winger from Rustenburg has left Moreirense FC in Portugal for a five-year contract with Sundowns. Speaking to the media after the deal, club captain Zwane said he did not expect the move but is neverthless excited to welcome a new quality player.

“I was surprised, I was not following him that side. But I was surprised when he came back,” said Zwane via FARPost.

“But he’s a good player. We’re happy that he took that decision and came back to try to win us trophies. It shows that they [Mamelodi Sundowns] want quality players and a quality squad so that we can compete. He can dribble and create those goals,” the Tembisa-born star concluded.

KODISANG ON HIS MOVE AND PLAYING POSITION

Speaking to his new club’s media last week, the former Platinum Star attacker revealed how the decision was made.

“I took the decision [together] with my agent and we concluded that this is where I should be,” Kodisang said, as cited by FARPost.

“I was able to watch some football, and I liked the style of play. Sundowns is a big team and a team that I wanted to play for here at home. I want to give the club my absolute best and see where it takes me.

“It’s different that side because even the style of play from here home and that side in Portugal is different. On that side, the ball moves too much. But outside, the culture and everything is difficult. Even the food tastes different,” the new Sundowns attacker added.

Kodisang concluded the chat by giving clariy on whether he is a winger or number 10.

“I would say a winger, sometimes number 10 because growing up, I was a midfielder,” he added.

“So I used to play number 10 or number eight until I played in the first team [at Platinum Stars]. So, after I joined the first team, the coach felt that I was too young. The coach thought I should go [play] on the sides because there is a little bit of space in the middle. So I was a number 10 who was also comfortable on the ball,” the Sundowns star concluded.
