Despite arriving in Mzansi in January, the 25-year-old forward has left Sundowns to join Argentine club Club Atletico Talleres on a 12-month loan deal.
“Club Atlético #Talleres reports that Matías Eduardo Esquivel is a new player of the institution and is already training with the senior team.
“Matías is 25 years old and was born in Avellaneda (Buenos Aires) on March 22, 1999. With 𝟭𝟯𝟵 matches as a professional, the footballer has 𝟭𝟱 goals throughout his career.”
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS STAR THAPELO MASEKO TO BE MOVED FROM THE WING
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has executed his plan for Thapelo Maseko.
While the 20-year-old winger won the CAF Most Promising Player as a winger last season, the club’s new coach Mngqithi told the media last week that Maseko will be moved from the winger to be a Sundowns striker.
“I played Maseko a lot as a striker in Austria, and he has developed in leaps and bounds,” said Mngqithi as cited by FARPost.
“I’m happy with what I see because although I have some question marks about him as a winger but, as a striker, he’s got something to give,” Mngqithi added on the Kabo Yellow attacker.
“Many people believe he’s very strong in dribbling, I don’t think so. I think he’s very strong in the space behind because of the pace he has and he has a good finish. Those two things make him very dangerous as a nine because he’s also a strong boy. He may be small but he’s very strong.
“His first touch is not bad, and to be honest, he scored some interesting goals in the process, both in training and in games. He scored against Sekhukhune [United] before we left, and he scored a very good goal again [in Austria].
“I believe he’s got a very good finishing ability, not so much the dribbling that everybody thinks he has. He can be like Khama [Billiat] and sometimes close to Percy [Tau].
“You must know he’s a little bit powerful, and sometimes you can use him to block the centre-backs before he goes in because he’s quicker to arrive there.
“I’ve got a feeling that he might have played as a striker before,” the Sundowns tactician concluded.
OFFICIAL CHANGE
Playing in the club’s first match of the season in the MTN8 on Sunday against Polokwane City, Maseko replaced Peter Shalulile in the center forward position on 79 minutes.
