Siddharth Palanichamy, a 2020 batch IAS officer from the Rajasthan cadre, hails from Madurai, Tamil Nadu. He secured an impressive All-India Rank (AIR) of 155 in his first attempt at the UPSC exam. Speaking of his educational qualifications, Siddharth Palanichamy S studied at Bachelor of Technology (BTech), Mechanical Engineering at the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli.
According to the report (2020), The Hindu, Siddharth Palanichamy, an alumnus of the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, decided to pursue a career in the civil services during his final year of undergraduate studies in mechanical engineering. Reflecting on his journey, he shared, “I have regularly read the newspaper since I was in school and eventually began reading other materials, including by B.R. Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi and popular international leaders. These influenced me. As my social awareness grew, the [civil] services seemed like a good option. It also offered a stable career choice.”
Speaking of the UPSC marks, Siddharth Palanichamy S secured 796 marks in the written examination and 190 marks in the personality test. Overall, he scored 986 marks. After completing his graduation, Mr. Palanichamy dedicated a year to preparation in Delhi. During this time, he focused deeply on his studies, engaged with podcasts, and even credited platforms like Instagram and Twitter for contributing to his learning journey. Palanichamy opted for Political Science and International Relations as his optional subject. At the age of 23, he became one of the youngest IAS officers in India.
