MELAKA: Seventeen trees have been uprooted after heavy rain and strong wind lashed the state since early Sunday (July 14).
A Melaka Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said they attended to dozens of distress calls on fallen trees since 3am on Sunday.
The spokesman described the situation as “outrageous” as firemen had to rush from area to area within a few hours.
Apart from uprooted trees, firemen also responded to an incident where a giant advertising board collapsed on Jalan Syed Abdul Aziz in Bandar Hilir at 4am.
Meanwhile, Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong said his team received 11 calls from residents after the roofs of their homes were blown off by strong winds.
He said five calls came from Kampung Morten and others from Pengkalan Rama Pantai, Kampung Tujuh and Kampung Lapan.
“There could be also other homes impacted by the adverse weather but victims haven’t reached out to us,” he said.
