Stories from a Galaxy Far, Far Away’ panel recap • AIPT

At San Diego Comic-Con, the only room that rivals the space available in Hall H is Ballroom 20. Thousands of seats fill the cavernous room, which takes a village to fill, and thankfully, Star Wars fans are a village.

Hosted by Patton Oswalt, the panel was meant to bring creative talent from different eras of the Star Wars mythos together. Two specific eras would get the spotlight: The original trilogy and The High Republic.

Surprisingly, most of the allotted time was spent with the voice actors from the forthcoming open-world game Outlaws. Humberly González, Jay Rincon, and Dee Bradley Baker shared their experiences contributing to a universe they all loved. While they detailed their individual contributions to the development of their characters, the audience was greeted by the motion capture process used to generate their digital avatars. They even brought the puppet that worked as a stand-in for the CGI companion.

González discussed her life growing up in Colombia and becoming a fan of the franchise in a different language. Considering the secrecy the game was under during development, she wasn’t even aware it was a Star Wars property for some time; she initially thought it was a Western throwback game. She also was excited to see a Latina woman play a central role and lead the series.

The High Republic fans were in full force in the room; I almost had my eardrums demolished by the enthusiasm the forthcoming novels and comics brought out in the fans sitting around me. There is clearly a committed group of readers dedicated to this era of Star Wars, and they responded positively to the details provided by writer Justina Ireland and the parting video from Acolyte director Leslye Headland. SDCC '24: 'Star Wars: Stories from a Galaxy Far, Far Away' panel recap

In addition to the sheer amount of Star Wars material on the floor of the convention at this year’s SDCC, it was great to see so many fans together in one room to celebrate the forthcoming additions to the series.
