Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye believes Stellenbosch will beat Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 final on Saturday evening.
The two teams play at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday evening. The Buccaneers come into the game on the back of 12 matches unbeaten this season across all competitions. Under Jose Riveiro, the Soweto giants have won the trophy back-to-back and are looking to win their third straight MTN8 title.
Despite having a cup pedigree, Khanye predicts Pirates to fall in the final.
“This guy (Lehlohonolo)Mojela is going to frustrate Orlando Pirates’ defence especially if Ndah is not playing,” he said on iDiski TV. It won’t be an easy game, more like David vs Goliath according to fans, and history but pound to pound, they are more of the same.”
Khanye said Orlando Pirates have a strong from three of Relebohile Mofoleng, Tshegofatso Mabasa and Monnapule Saleng, but also complimented Stellies attacking trio as well.
Orlando Pirates play their fifth final in a row
“Stellenbosch have Mojela, (Andre)de Jong and (Devin)Titus, a very strong front three. If they can beat Sundowns, they can beat anyone,” he said.
“Pirates have plan B, but don’t have plan B. They rely too much on that boy Mofokeng, if that boy is not functioning, the team is not functioning. Mofokeng and (Patrick) Maswanganyi are two players Pirates rely on. I’m sure Steve Barker will have a plan to stop these two players. He will prefer to sit back and attack at the right moments, but either way, Stellenbosch will score…Pirates defence is sluggish.”
The former Chiefs star expects both Pirates and Stellies to attack in Saturday’s final. He predicts the Cape side to score twice in the match and claim the MTN8.
“Once they score, Pirates will open. They are an exciting team to watch, I love watching them play,” he added.
“Stellies will frustrate Pirates but will be clever when they have the ball. They know how to score and they will score first and then Pirates will open up. They can even get the second goal. Pirates tend to concede goals, at times they look ordinary.
Stellenbosch they going to surprise people, they will win 2-1. I know that Pirates are cup specialists but we can’t rely on history,” Khanye said.
