SSB removed 1,100 encroachments in No Man’s Land: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Friday that Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) removed over 1,100 encroachments in No Man’s Land while maintaining the dignity of India-Nepal cordial ties. Shah was addressing at Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)’s rising day celebration in Siliguri, West Bengal.

Shah informed that SSB has adopted a zero-tolerance policy in the last 3 years against encroachment on government land within 15 km of the border. He said that SSB has been successful in freeing thousands of acres of government land from encroachment.

Shah further added that SSB played a significant role in securing the country’s open borders with Nepal and Bhutan and hailed its contribution to combating Naxalism in Bihar and Jharkhand. He also noted that the presence of SSB in the Siliguri corridor, which works as the main point of connectivity between East and North East, has helped the country to live with a sense of safety. Shah’s presence in Bengal is significant in the backdrop of the troubled situation in Bangladesh.

Shah urged the SSB to curb the anti-national activities during border movements and ensure that they are handed over to law enforcement agencies.
