Authorities raided Rubiales’ home in Granada two weeks ago as part of a wide-ranging investigation into corruption and money laundering within the Spanish football federation. Officers intended to arrest the former chief at the time but were unable to because he was on a business trip in the Dominican Republic.
Rubiales, who has denied any wrongdoing, returned to Spain voluntarily. He was released after questioning.
Rubiales is the subject of a separate legal case related to his non-consensual kiss of footballer Jenni Hermoso last summer after the Spanish team won the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
Spanish prosecutors are seeking a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for Rubiales, who has been charged with sexual assault and coercion.
