Sony’s Horizon Netflix Series Reportedly In Rough State

The Horizon series of games from PlayStation was planned to get a live-action TV adaptation from Netflix, but it seems that project is stuck and isn’t making progress anytime soon. According to Rolling Stone, the project was being worked on by Steve Blackman, the showrunner of The Umbrella Academy, and has run into some developmental troubles.

This comes as part of a bigger report that accused Steve Blackman of toxic and negative behavior while working on The Umbrella Academy. At this point, it is not possible to say whether the work of Netflix’s Horizon TV series will continue under a different team, or whether the project will be canned completely. The plan of the streaming giant was to expand on the world of Horizon by introducing new characters in a familiar world.

According to Steve Blackman, these claims brought up by 12 people who are working with the showrunner are entirely untrue and “absurd.” More information will come to light soon once the matter is revealed in more detail.

Horizon currently has two mainline games, Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West. Both games follow Aloy, as she travels and uncovers the secrets of a lush world in which dinosaur-like machines share the landscape with humans. Both games are PlayStation exclusive, but both got a PC release later on. Horizon Forbidden West just received a PC release in March 2024 called Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition. It comes with the Burning Shores DLC at launch as well.

The Horizon series isn’t the only PlayStation property that is planned to get the live-action adaptation treatment. The God of War series from Sony Santa Monica is also being turned into a TV series in partnership with Amazon. We have not gotten any further details other than the fact that it is being worked on. Hopefully, that won’t run into developmental troubles down the line.
