Former actress Sonam recently reminisced about her experience working on the film ‘Vishwatma‘ with her dear friend, the late Divya Bharti. Taking to Instagram, Sonam shared a nostalgic throwback picture from the film’s set, highlighting the memorable shoot of the iconic song ‘Saat Samundar Paar.’
In her post, Sonam penned a detailed caption, reminiscing about her experience working on ‘Vishwatma’ at the young age of 18.She fondly recalled the time spent on the set with her ex-husband, director Rajiv Rai, who played a significant role in shaping the film. Although she was just 18 during the shoot, this was not her first time in front of the camera, as she had made her acting debut at 15 in the Telugu film ‘Samrat’.
Reflecting on the vibrant days of the ‘Vishwatma’ era, Sonam wrote, “Revisiting the iconic #Vishwatma era! At just 18, I was part of the unforgettable ‘Dil Le Gayi Teri Bindiya’ song shoot by iconic director @rajiv_rai_ @trimurtifilms music by genius #vijushah at Filmcity, alongside the entire star-studded cast, including @naseeruddin49 @iamsunnydeol, @chunkypanday, #DivyaBharti, #JyotsnaSingh, and #AmrishPuri. We had an absolute blast on set.”

She also highlighted the creative brilliance of choreographer Saroj Khan, who added a magical touch to the sequences, and praised the exquisite outfits designed by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, which contributed to the visual appeal of the film. Sonam further shared that the experience was particularly unique for her as it was her first shoot as a newlywed, with her then-husband Rajiv Rai directing the project. She recalled how Divya Bharti would affectionately call her “Madam Producer,” a memory she treasures dearly. “The legendary #SarojKhan’s choreography added magic to the sequence, while @abujanisandeepkhosla’s exquisite outfits made it a visual treat. It was also my first shoot as a newlywed 18-year-old, which made the experience even more unique, especially being directed by my ex-husband and now a dear friend @rajiv_rai_ . I fondly remember how Divya Bharti would playfully call me ‘Madam Producer.’ This experience remains etched in my memory as a truly unforgettable adventure,” she added.
Sonam’s relationship with Rajiv Rai, whom she worked with on both ‘Tridev’ and ‘Vishwatma,’ was central to her early career. The couple, who share a son, Gaurav Rai, who was diagnosed with autism at an early age, initially lived in Los Angeles before relocating to Europe. However, their marriage eventually fell apart, leading to their official divorce in 2016. Despite the end of their marriage, Sonam’s fond memories of their time together, especially during the making of ‘Vishwatma,’ continue to hold a special place in her heart.
