What is Alta That Sonakshi Sinha Chose Over Mehendi?
Alta, also known as mahavar, is a red dye that ladies put on their hands and feet on important occasions such as puja rituals, religious festivals, and marriages. Men are also expected to wear the alta on their feet when participating in marriage rituals. Usually, a cotton swab, hands, or brush are used to apply it. In Hinduism, decorating hands and feet with alta is symbolic of cleanliness and good fortune. The origin of alta is said to have originated from episodes in Indian mythology in which Lord Krishna dyes Radha’s hands scarlet.
