The 10 shortlisted names are Kwiq, Kymaq, Kylaq, Kariq, Kyroq, Kosmiq, Kayaq, Kaiq, Kliq, Karmiq. The company stipulated that the name must start with ‘K’ and end with ‘Q’, following Skoda’s SUV naming scheme. Over 1,30,000 entries were received, with nearly 20,000 unique names among them.
The Jury for this contest includes Martin Jahn, Member of the Board of Management for Sales & Marketing, Skoda Auto; Piyush Arora, MD and CEO, SAVIPL; Jan Bures, Executive Director, Sales, Marketing and Digital, SAVIPL; and Petr Jeneba. The 10 shortlisted participants will have the opportunity to visit Skoda’s headquarters and museum in Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic, and enjoy a tour of Prague. One lucky winner will win the new Skoda compact SUV.
The new compact SUV will share the MQB-A0-IN platform with the Kushaq and Slavia. In terms of design, the new model is expected to feature Skoda’s signature grille, sleek LED DRLs, and split headlights. It is likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo petrol engine, delivering 115 hp and 178 nm of torque. Gearbox options will include a 6-speed torque converter and a 6-speed manual gearbox.
When launched, the new compact SUV is set to compete with models like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, and Mahindra XUV 300 in the Indian market. Pricing for the entry-level trim is expected to start at Rs 8 lakh and go up to Rs 14 lakh for the top-of-the-line trim, both prices are ex-showroom estimates.
