The name “Kylaq” was chosen through a pan-India contest, paying tribute to Mount Kailash and meaning “crystal” in Sanskrit.
Skoda India has introduced its newest compact SUV, the Kylaq, with a starting price of Rs 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom).
Bookings start on December 2, and deliveries are set to begin on January 27, 2025. The SUV will also be showcased at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Show in January.
The Kylaq is Skoda’s smallest SUV yet, designed to take the brand’s sales to new heights with a target of 1,00,000 units annually. In 2022, Skoda’s India 2.0 program saw record sales with the Kushaq and Slavia, totaling 53,721 units, according to Autocar.
The name “Kylaq” was chosen through a pan-India contest, paying tribute to Mount Kailash and meaning “crystal” in Sanskrit. This aligns with Skoda’s SUV naming tradition, like Kushaq and Kodiaq, while also honoring Czech crystal heritage.
Design
The Kylaq follows Skoda’s new “Modern Solid” design language, featuring a sleek front grille and a split headlamp setup with LED lights. Though it looks similar to the Kushaq, the Kylaq is smaller and more compact with an 85mm shorter wheelbase and a total length of 3,995mm.
Features
Inside, the Kylaq has a dashboard similar to the Kushaq’s, with an 8-inch digital display, a 10-inch touchscreen, and essential features like wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, sunroof, keyless entry, and even ventilated front seats. Notably, both front seats come with powered adjustments—an edge over many rivals.
Despite its compact size, the Kylaq provides comfortable space for rear passengers and boasts a large boot with 446 liters of space. Split-folding rear seats allow even more room when needed.
The Kylaq is built on Skoda’s MQB-A0 IN platform, aiming for a 5-star NCAP rating with six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and more.
Engine Specifications
Under the hood, it’s powered by a 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine, delivering 115 bhp and 178Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 10.5 seconds, making it one of the quickest in its segment.
Rivals
Priced competitively, the Kylaq will challenge rivals like the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Sonet. Skoda is also expanding its service network to reach more cities and towns across India.
