AN elderly cyclist caused concern to rush hour commuters yesterday morning – when she was spotted on the hard shoulder of the busy M8.
Dressed in cycling shorts and wearing a helmet, she was captured on dashcam pushing an electric bike against traffic on the westbound carriageway near Glasgow’s Charing Cross.

A concerned driver called the incident into Police Scotland, telling The Scottish Sun: “It was a shock to see someone walking on the motorway – especially at such a busy time.
“But when I saw it was an old lady pushing what appeared to be a blue electric bike, I became concerned for her safety and called the police.
“She looked well equipped to cycle, but must have taken one heck of a wrong turn to end up walking the wrong way down the M8.”
That area of the M8 is a notorious accident blackspot.
In 2020 David Campbell, 54 and Allison Campbell, 51, lost their lives in a fireball after the car they were travelling in collided with a crash barrier.
There was also a five car smash at the same spot involving footie fans driving home after the Scottish Cup final clash after Celtic beat Hearts 2-1 in 2019.
While earlier in the same year there was an 11 car pile-up at Charing Cross section of the M8.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Officers attended and there was no trace of the woman.”

The M8 has been hit by a spate of serious crashes in recent days.
We told last week how three people including a police officer were left critical after a multi-vehicle collision.
During that incident, a total of seven casualties were taken to hospital.
On Monday, two people were rushed to hospital after a car flipped on its roof during a smash incident.
In further road incidents, eight people were tragically killed in a series of crashes across the country over the weekend.
