Residents of Shimla’s wards are required to pay an annual fee of approximately Rs 11,800 for parking.
The affected parking areas will remain closed until the tendering process is completed and new contracts are in place.
Shimla is experiencing increased parking difficulties as the Municipal Corporation has temporarily closed 37 parking facilities due to a delay in tender processes. To alleviate parking congestion, the Corporation had previously developed small parking lots across various wards for local residents. These lots are managed by contractors who handle the allocation of parking spaces and charge a nominal annual fee.
However, this year, tenders for these 37 parking facilities have not been processed, leading to their closure. The affected parking areas will remain closed until the tendering process is completed and new contracts are in place.
The Mayor of Shimla Municipal Corporation, Surendra Chauhan, informed Local 18 that the Corporation plans to initiate the tender process for parking facilities soon. If there are no official participants in the tender, the parking spaces will be allocated directly to the local residents. An annual fee will be charged, and residents’ vehicle numbers will be recorded at the parking locations to facilitate convenient parking near their homes.
Residents of Shimla’s wards are required to pay an annual fee of approximately Rs 11,800 for parking. These parking arrangements are renewed each year. The renewal process is managed by the local councillor, and if a contractor participates in the tender, the parking is renewed through them. A receipt is provided for this service, and vehicle numbers are registered at the parking site.
