THE niece of a woman whose murder has remained a mystery for 30 years said last night her aunt had been “put on a shelf and forgotten”.
Agnes Wilson, 41, told of her torment as she urged cold case cops to reopen the hunt for Agnes ‘Nan’ Montgomery’s killer.
The 46-year-old was battered to death in her home, where her body — guarded by her loyal collie Queenie — was later found by a neighbour.
But her killer has never been caught despite a series of police probes and appeals for information by loved ones.
Agnes — widow Nan’s last living relative — was just 11 at the time of the June 1994 horror in Irvine, Ayrshire.
But she told how she has never given up hope of the perpetrator being brought to justice.
She said: “We know my aunt was murdered but we still don’t know her specific cause of death — we don’t know if she suffered.
“I’m the only one left so it’s up to me to try to get answers.
“Someone must know something. It’s been 30 years and someone has carried that secret with them all this time.
“It feels like she has been put on a shelf and forgotten.”

Agnes believes Nan must have known her murderer.
She went on: “My aunt’s dog would bark and growl at anyone who came to the door that she didn’t know.
“You hear about these cold cases that go 30 to 40 years down the line and they get a breakthrough.
“We are left with the constant question over what happened. There’s no closure.
“It would be amazing to get renewed effort into the case.”
Cops last night insisted the probe remained open.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The murder of Agnes Montgomery, remains unresolved.
“Any new information will be investigated.”
