Sharmin Segal Mehta, who played the central character of Alamzeb in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, has addressed the online discussions surrounding her performance for the first time since the show’s release on Netflix. Heeramandi has sparked conversation on social media, with some viewers expressing mixed opinions about Segal’s portrayal.

In an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, Segal acknowledges the audience’s right to express their views, both positive and negative. “The audience is the king at the end of the day,” Segal says. “That’s one thing that gives me perspective and allows me to be okay [with the feedback].”
Sharmin initially avoided online discussions about Heeramandi but recently decided to engage with the feedback. “There was a point when I was not looking at many things [reviews] but then slowly, I realised that I was also missing out on a lot of love that I was getting, ” she reveals. She further added, “I’ve now started paying attention to that. Over the last few days, I decided to look through it all.”
She spoke about the importance of constructive criticism: “The audience’s opinion is what will probably help you be the best version of yourself… I saw positivity, constructive criticism, and a whole range of feedback. It’s an inevitability. Opinions shape you as an actor and a human being.”
Heeramandi Confirmed for Season 2!
The news of Segal’s interview coincides with the exciting announcement of Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’s renewal for a second season on Netflix India. Fans were treated to a dazzling flash mob performance celebrating the show’s success at Carter Road, Mumbai.
