Heeramandi on OTT: Sharmin Segal, Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Richa Chadha, Shekhar Suman, Fardeen Khan, Aditi Rao Hydari starrer web series has been the talk of the town since its release. While many hailed it, a few thought that the drama series was not Bhansali’s best work. Sonakshi Sinha, especially, received major accolades for her performance. However, the biggest center of attraction became Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s niece, Sharmin Segal, who essayed the character of Alamzeb in the series. She was the most talked-about actor, not because people loved her performance or her character was outstanding, but because of her poor acting chops. Many criticized Bhansali, who is known to bring out the best acting from actors, for allowing the actress to perform so poorly in the series. Amidst this, an old interview of Sharmin Segal has caught attention where she reveals how she was laughed at when she started pursuing theatre.

Sharmin Segal once shared people laughed at her when she started acting in theatre
As per a report in News 18, Sharmin Segal once said in an interview how there was no plan to become an actor. She stated that she always wanted to become a doctor. However, during college, the acting bug caught her. She started doing stage plays in college. She recalled people used to laugh at her as, at that time, she used to weigh around 94 kgs. She stated that she used to be worried of how would she become an actor as, besides acting, your appearance matters the most in the glamour world. Later she completed her acting school and then when she thought she is ready to become an actor she approached uncle Sanjay Leela Bhansali that she wants to work in films. That’s when Sanjay helped her to bag her debut film Malaal.
Recently, Bhansali also mentioned why he cast Sharmin for the role of Alamzeb. He said that Sharmin had the qualities to be Alamzeb. He shared that he took a number of tests to get Alamzeb right, as Sharmin has never been into acting while all the others have been experienced.
