Bollywood’s three Khans – Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan – made headlines over the weekend as they reunited to put up a small dance performance on-stage at the extravagant celebrations.As part of their act, the men chose to dance to the tune of ‘Naatu Naatu’, the high-spirited Oscar-winning Telugu song from ‘RRR’. However, when the trio could not seem to nail the iconic hook step, the called the film’s leading man Ram Charan on stage to help them.
Makeup artist Zeba Hassan sparked controversy when she took to her social media handle and alleged disrespect towards Charan and shared a clip of the same, providing context to her outburst. In her stories, she posted the clip that had Shah Rukh taking the mic and playfully calling Ram on-stage. However, the actor went on to seemingly mimic the Tamil or Telugu language as he spoke gibberish and could be heard saying, “Idli”.
This action, deemed disrespectful by Hassan, prompted her to leave the event. “I walked out after this. So disrespectful towards a star like @alwaysramcharan,” she wrote.
She commented on the video, “I’m a huge SRK fan but I really disliked the way he called Ram Charan on stage.”
The post soon sparked outrage among fans who slammed SRK saying, “I’m an srk fan and I’m appalled by his comments. Good on her for calling him out. Hope she doesn’t get Hate from his fans.”
Another said, “You don’t have to be from the south to find it offensive. It’s 2024 and there’s no excuse for saying all this.”
“Not just disrespectful towards a movie star but disrespectful towards all South Indians. It propagates certain ridiculous stereotypes and people think it’s ok to do this,” asked another.
“Man, for all the wit and chivalry SRK is praised for, I cannot believe he said this. I’m not from South but I totally understand the backlash he’s receiving for this. Distasteful on his part,” said another.
However, fans of the Bollywood star soon came to his defence and claimed that he was mouthing a dialogue from his film ‘One 2 Ka 4’. In the film, he starred alongside actor Jackie Shroff. “SRK used a dialogue to his own movie to invite Ram Charan in Stage,” commented a fan and shared a clip from the movie.
The incident occurred during the second day of the pre-wedding celebrations.
