Senior cop among seven detained for extorting and molesting woman

KUALA LUMPUR: A senior police officer with the rank of Assistant Superintendent, along with six personnel, has been detained for alleged extortion and molestation of a woman earlier this month.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the 22-year-old victim lodged a report on Oct 7.

“Previously, three local men were detained in the case but were released on police bail.

Further investigations led to the arrests of seven policemen, including the ASP, aged between their 30s and 50s,” he said after the Royal Malaysia Police National Sports Day celebration at the KL police headquarters on Saturday (Oct 12).

Comm Rusdi denied claims of delayed action in the matter.

“There are allegations that the police were late in taking action. It must be understood that thorough checks and investigations are needed.

This includes checking transactions, CCTV footage, and interviewing the victim, as we understand she was late in lodging a report,” he added.

All suspects have been remanded for three days.

Earlier, news about a woman claiming to have been extorted and molested by individuals during a raid on a condominium unit in Cheras went viral on Telegram.
