DON’T let movie night be ruined by bad TV settings.
There’s a Sky TV feature that can save you from one of the most common film fails – and it happens all the time on action flicks.
Have you ever watched a movie where the sound of the action is so loud that you just can’t hear the dialogue?
Well Sky has revealed a trick that specifically boosts the audio of dialogue.
It only works inside the Amazon Prime Video app, but it’s extremely handy.
The feature was flagged by an anonymous Sky employee who said: “This feature allows you to boost the volume of dialogue in comparison to background music and sound effects.”
It’s called Dialogue Boost, and it only takes a few seconds to turn on.
All you need to do is load up some Prime Video content on Sky TV, and then go to the Audio and Subtitles dropdown menu.
You can get that on the movie’s Overview panel by pressing UP and then RIGHT.
The Sky employee notes: “The Dialogue Boost levels are labelled: ‘English Dialogue Boost: Medium’ and ‘English Dialogue Boost: High.’
“The detail page for a title will indicate whether Dialogue Boost is available.”
Bear in mind that some titles might not support this option.
OTHER SKY TV TRICKS TO TRY
One of the best Sky tricks is a clever way to find your lost TV remote.
If it’s fallen down the back of the sofa or underneath a table, there’s an easy way to track it down.
Just press on the big Sky Q button on the front of your Sky box.
It’s actually a button and will cause your errant remote to beep for 30 seconds.
That way you can find it – and once you do, just press any button to cancel the beeping.
Bear in mind that this won’t work if the remote control has no battery, hasn’t been paired with that Sky box, or is out of range.
Once you’ve found it again, you can do some clever tricks with its voice-control function.
For instance, it’s possible to use voice-control to easily skip TV ad breaks on recorded content.
HOW TO SEARCH WITH SKY VOICE REMOTE
Here are some easy commands to try out…
Search for specified movie – “[Movie title]”
Search for specified programme – “[Programme title]”
Search for content which stars specified actor – “[Actor name]”
Search for content directed by specified director – “[Director name]”
Search for movies within specified genre – “[Movie genre]”
Search for sport content within specified genre. Genres include football, F1, Rugby Union, Cricket, and Rugby League – “[Sport genre]”
Search specific channel – “[Channel name]”
Search for movies with a specific star rating – “[x] star movies” “movies rated [x] stars”
Search for content with specified picture format. Picture format includes SD, HD, and Ultra HD – “[Picture format]”
Search for sports, teams or competitions – “[Sport Name]”, “[Team Name]”, “[Competition Name]”
Just hit the microphone button and say “fast-forward three minutes” to blast past entire ad breaks in a flash.
It’s much faster than having to manually fast-forward.
Another great voice-control trick lets you find movies even when you’ve forgotten their names.
All you need to do is say a famous quote from a film or TV show into the microphone and it should pop right up.
CAN’T GET VOICE CONTROL TO WORK?
Here are Sky’s official tips for fixing Voice Control…
If Voice Control isn’t working, check your Sky Q remote for problems:
- Remove the battery cover off the body of the Sky Q remote.
- Take out the batteries and insert them again, matching the + and – signs.
- Once the batteries are in place, replace the cover by aligning the catch with the remote body and sliding forward, so it clicks back into place.
Press help (?) on your remote to check it has battery power:
- If the LED light at the top of the remote flashes , then press and hold the Voice Control button. If you don’t see the search screen then replace the batteries, and press the Voice Control button once more.
- If the LED light at the top of the remote doesn’t flash , then check the batteries are in correctly. If they are, replace them with new batteries. Press and hold the Voice Control button, if you don’t see the search screen then pair the remote.

Just note that if a movie isn’t currently available on Sky TV, it won’t appear using this method – no matter how impressive your delivery of the quote is.
One final trick worth trying is tracking down your hidden TV folder.
It turns out that when recorded content is deleted, it doesn’t actually vanish right away.
You can actually go into Sky’s Deleted folder and bring it back from the dead.
So if you regret deleting something, accidentally scrubbed a show, or had a rogue family member wipe your favourite movie away, you can go and get it back.

Just go to the Recordings section on your Sky Planner, then Manage > Deleted.
It’s also a handy trick for freeing up storage, because this folder is where you can permanently delete content to get its claimed space back.
