Celebrities are just like us; they also get incredibly fatalistic when talking about their favorite sports team.
Such was the case with actor Will Ferrell. The noted Seahawks fan joined online sports talk show “Up and Adams” to preview his team’s upcoming game against the San Francisco 49ers. Host Kay Adams prompted Ferrell to give Seattle a hypothetical pump-up speech ahead of Sunday’s game, but the actor’s words were anything but inspiring.
“I’d say, ‘Guys, we’re gonna punt on third down every series. And we’re just gonna … We’re not gonna control the ball. Just don’t worry about it,’” Ferrell said, to chuckles from Adams and former tight end Rob Gronkowski.

The “Elf” star ultimately ran into the same issue that plagues opposing coaches around the league: “I don’t know what you do about the 49ers, right?”
This season, the answer has mostly been to hope San Francisco’s best players are out with an injury. The extended absences of Deebo Samuel and Trent Williams were just about the only thing to derail the Niners this year, sparking a three-game losing streak that led to some pretty harsh criticism that has since been almost entirely forgotten. Ferrell also gave actual advice, including, “Play with defense, running the ball,” but still ended on a hilariously pessimistic note.
“They’re not a flashy team,” he continued. “So I think it’s just you’re gonna have to get a number of turnovers and hold down their offense and hang on for dear life. That’s my rah-rah speech: Hang on for dear life.”
