SCOTLAND is set to be as hot as Greece as temperatures rise this week – forcing punters to ditch their coats in November.
Mercury levels are predicted to unseasonally rise to highs of 18C – almost as hot as Athens.
With Scotland due to have Britain’s best sunshine tomorrow, autumn is on hold as a 400 mile-wide tropical thrust sees fireworks fans told to leave hats and scarves at home this week, with skies mainly dry.
After a 16C start to the week, the Met Office forecast up to 18C in Glasgow on Wednesday and Thursday.
With London forecast up to 20C, bookmakers Coral cut odds from 5/1 to 6/4 on highs beating November’s overall temperature record of 22.4C, set on November 1, 2015, in Trawsgoed, Ceredigion, Wales.
Coral spokesman John Hill said: “The odds say the mercury will shoot up faster than fireworks.”
Scotland’s 18C highs would be 6C higher than early November’s usual 12C, and almost as hot as 19C Athens.
And there will be some more sunny spells and often cloudy conditions this week, with no rain for most amid high pressure.
Peak temperatures in the high teens daily and mainly dry conditions will last into next week.
BBC Weather said: “Temperatures will rise from Tuesday as southerly winds develop, becoming warm with temperatures in the high teens.”
Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna said: “A very mild airstream this week will see highs not far from date temperature records.”
He added: “The best of the sunny spells on Monday will be in Scotland.
“Temperatures this week will be warmer than normal, feeling pleasant in brighter spells.”
However, a nippier November could soon eventually reach us with flurries of snow dusting the ground in the coming weeks.
The dry and settled weather could pass as Scotland braces for an Arctic blast later in the month.

Experts predict that Scotland could see a shift from Wednesday November 13 as the maps turn blue.
