Flight VS226 departed from the US at around 1:56am on August 31.

The pilots requested a priority landing after a passenger fell ill onboard.

A post from FlightRadar24 read: “VS226 from Orlando to Edinburgh is squawking 7700, indicating a general emergency. Reason currently unknown.”

The flight made a safe landing at around 9:57am and was met by a team of medics.

A Virgin Atlantic spokesperson said: “Due to one of our passengers becoming unwell onboard, the VS226 travelling from Orlando to Edinburgh requested a priority landing and the aircraft was met by a medical team.

“The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is always our number one priority and this is standard procedure taken purely as a precautionary measure.”

It comes days after a Ryanair plane bound for Scotland was forced to divert following a mid-air emergency.

The flight was diverted to Portugal during a medical incident.
