Scots drivers hit with travel chaos as part of M74 CLOSED due to crash

A CRASH has sparked delays on a busy section of one of the country’s busiest motorways.

It’s unknown how many vehicles are involved in the smash on the M74 at junction 2 but drivers are being urged to avoid the area.

Both lanes of the busy stretch southbound have been closed.

In a tweet Traffic Scotland warned motorists to allow “extra time” for their journey.

They said: “M74 Junction 2 is CLOSED southbound due to an ongoing road traffic incident.

“Please use an alternative route and allow extra travel time.”

It’s unknown if anyone has been injured or how long the road will be closed.

Earlier today parts of northern Scotland were with snow storms causing travel chaos.

Snow fell across the north, northwest and some areas along the Central Belt between 3am and 4am.

Locals in Moray struggled to get out and about after becoming completely snowed in overnight.

Those in Tomintoul and Cock Bridge, within Cairngorms National Park in the Highlands, were stranded after cars got stuck on the roads.

Drivers travelling along the busy A939 road were forced to abandon their motors as snowploughs struggled to get through the area.

And weather maps have revealed that more flurries are set to fall across the rest of today and tomorrow as Christmas approaches.

It is set to bring sleet and hail with it with Scots warned to brace for heavy rain and downpours in some areas.
