Sometimes you come across things in the automotive world that you never thought you needed until you see it. Sometimes it’s as simple as the perfect wheel and color combo on a sports car. Other times it’s something absurd, like a V8 stuffed into a Miata. Or it can be the ultimate bro-mobile: A Subaru WRX STI pickup.
Currently listed for sale on eBay Motors, this Impreza WRX STI is from Smyth Performance’s Ute conversions, which tend to be a little hit or miss. This one actually looks decent however. The description says the donor car was a 2006 WRX STI sedan with a clean accident history.
Aside from the conversion, the body work is largely stock. This extends to the interior as well, right down to the STI Recaro seats. The only modification inside is an aftermarket Kenwood audio system and Alpine speakers.
You might have some trouble using it as an actual pickup however. The bed has a hinged cover and opens Chevy SSR style, which means you can’t carry anything that’s taller than the edge of the bed.
The engine — a 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-4 — has some mods. The seller mentions that there’s a Turbo Tek Tuning ECU tune, high flow catalytic converter, and a COBB Tuning boost control solenoid. Other small modifications include an IAG Performance engine skid plate on the underbody and 18-inch fifteen52 Integrale wheels. And whoever owned this thing before actually drove it; there’s over 178,000 miles on it.
If you’re interested the seller has it listed for $19,900 or “best offer.” It’s hard to gauge whether or not that price is good though. One one hand this is unique and you’ll likely never encounter anything else like it on the street. On the other, take away the pickup conversion and you’re left with a high mileage, overpriced sport compact. Ultimately, it’ll be up to you and your wallet to make the decision. Choose wisely.
