He’d brought a carrier bag packed with his belongings to Kilmarnock Sheriff Court — indicating that he expected to be put behind bars after earlier admitting a heroin charge.

When his hearing started, law chief Murdoch MacTaggart told Baird he might benefit from a Drug Treatment and Testing Order to help him battle his long-standing addictions.

Supported by a new partner, Baird replied: “I’ve been totally drug-free since December last year when this all happened, apart from diazepam.

“My doctor said he’ll keep giving me a wee bit less every time, so I think I’m fine with that.”

Incredibly, Baird appeared to snub the offer to avoid prison, saying: “I think this DTTO might be better for someone else.”

But Sheriff MacTaggart insisted on the order, adding: “We will see if you’re suitable.”

Baird was told to return to court next month for sentencing.

He was found by cops smoking heroin after a raid at his home in the town last December.

In March, Sheriff Rhona Wark told him he was on his “final chance” as she fined him £600 for having heroin in April 2023.

Viewers saw his struggles in the 2010 series about life in Kilmarnock’s Onthank estate.
