Saswata Chatterjee on lessons Hindi and Bengali cinema should learn from each other: ‘Budget isn’t…’ | Exclusive

Kalki 2898 AD fame Saswata Chatterjee recently highlighted few important points which Hindi and Bengali film industry should learn from one another.

Saswata Chatterjee is a prominent name in both the Bengali and Hindi film industries, synonymous with thriller and fictional characters. Whether it was as Bob Biswas in Kahaani or Commander Manas in Kalki 2898 AD, Chatterjee has usually portrayed characters with grey shades. A seasoned actor with a career spanning over three decades, he has left an indelible mark on both industries. In an exclusive conversation with India.com, Saswata shared insightful opinions on what the Bengali and Hindi film industries could learn from each other.

When asked what lessons both industries could take from one another, the Kalki 2898 AD actor said, “Actually, the Bengali industry is quite small, and the budget is not adequate. Nowadays, producers are asking to make a film within a time bracket of 12 to 14 days. It is becoming very difficult, you cannot think big. That’s the basic issue. So, the Hindi industry could learn how to work within a small budget and a 12-13 day schedule, which would help reduce their budget. On the other hand, we in the Bengali industry should learn how to expand our reach globally. That’s the key difference.”
