South African shoppers have revealed the one grocery item they really want this festive season, IOL reported on 11 December 2024.
The publication said supermarket giant, Woolworths, has found out what grocery shoppers want this Christmas. The retailer is now making sure they have this product readily available. And that most wanted item is – long life milk! So here’s where to find it and other grocery items you will need for your festivities.
FOR THE LOVE OF MILK
According to IOL, Woolworths CEO, Roy Bagattini, said long life milk is one of the key strategies they are using to draw customers to their stores. The retailer has therefore ensured they match the demand by keeping sufficient supply.
GOOD NEWS FOR GROCERY SHOPPERS AS FOOD INFLATION HITS 14-YEAR LOW
BusinessTech reports that the South African food inflation is currently the lowest it has been in 14 years. This is according to Stats SA’s recently-released data.
The annual inflation for non-alcoholic beverages (NAB) and food declined from 3.6% in October to 2.3% in November. Stats SA said this is the lowest the inflation rate in this category has been since December 2010 when it was at 1.6%. They further expressed that some of the most basic and needed food items in homes are available at low rates.
“Eight of the 11 food & NAB groups registered lower rates, including vegetables; milk, eggs & cheese; hot beverages; bread & cereals; cold beverages; meat; sugar, sweets & desserts; and the miscellaneous category ‘other’ food. Fish inflation was flat, while oils & fats and fruit recorded steeper price increases.
“The annual rate for bread & cereals moderated further, cooling to its lowest level in almost three years. Important items such as brown bread, white bread, maize meal, cold cereals, pasta and rice recorded lower rates. Inflation quickened for several products, including samp and hot cereals.”
