SAMSUNG has begun rolling out an important security update to Galaxy phones outside of the US today.
The Korean phone giant, which staggers its update releases, has issued its August 2024 security patch to nearly a dozen devices so far this month.
While models of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 in the US received the update on August 9, according to a Samsung community note, owners of the same device in Europe have been unable to install it yet.
That is, until today.
The smartphone giant, which beat Apple as the most popular smartphone maker in the first quarter of this year, has now released the Galaxy Z Fold 4 August 2024 security patch to more countries.
The August 2024 update fixes nearly 50 security vulnerabilities.
One vulnerability is reportedly such a risk that the US government raised red flags about it among federal staff in June.
This “critical” cyber flaw, dubbed CVE-2024-32896, was first reported in June – but only for Google Pixel device owners.
At the time, Google issued a second security patch for Pixel devices, after its initial monthly update, to fix the CVE-2024-32896 bug.
Explaining more about the issue in June’s Pixel Update Bulletin, Google added: “There are indications that CVE-2024-32896 may be under limited, targeted exploitation.”

It has since been revealed that it’s not just Pixel owners who are exposed to the bug.
The cyber flaw actually impacts all Android phones, including Samsung devices.
When it was believed to just be a Pixel-isolated issue, the US government told staff they must stop using their devices if they have not updated them.
The update has already rolled out to 11 Samsung devices in the US, including:
- Galaxy M55 (August 6)
- Galaxy S24 (August 7)
- Galaxy S23 (August 7)
- Galaxy XCover7 (August 8)
- Galaxy S20 FE 5G (August 8)
- Galaxy Z Flip 5 (August 9)
- Galaxy Z Fold 5 (August 9)
- Galaxy Z Fold 4 (August 9)
- Galaxy Z Fold 3 (August 9)
- Galaxy Z Flip 4 (August 10)
- Galaxy Z Flip 3 (August 10)
These same devices across Europe should see the update arrive soon.
Samsung owners have been urged to download the August 2024 patch as soon as possible.
To download the update, open Settings > Software Update > Download or Install.
Samsung charging tip – how to charge best
Here’s Samsung’s official advice…
To get the most out of your smartphone’s battery, you’ll need to charge it properly.
Most Smartphones have a lithium-ion battery that lives longer when charged regularly.
Unlike the nickel batteries used in older phones, lithium-ion batteries do best when kept above a 50 percent charge.
Repeatedly allowing the battery to drain fully may shorten its life and decrease its overall capacity.
If this happens, you’ll need to charge the battery more frequently and it may last only a few hours before needing a charge, for example.
Leaving the phone connected to the charger (when the phone is completely charged) while you are using it may lower battery life if you do it repeatedly.
