The Realme GT 6 (review) and the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra (review) are the two latest launches in the flagship killer category, and both are powered by the same Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 mobile platform. While the on-paper specifications of both smartphones are very identical, the price difference is considerable. Today, we compare Realme GT 6 and Motorola Edge 50 Ultra performance to see whether GT 6 offers better value for money.

For this comparison, we have tested the top variants of both smartphones. Before proceeding, let’s quickly review their hardware specifications.

Geekbench 6

In Geekbench’s single and multicore benchmark, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra surprisingly scored better than the Realme GT 6, even with less RAM configuration. The Realme GT 6 scored 1,852 in the single-core test and 4,761 in the multi-core test. Conversely, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra scored 1,944 in the single-core test and 5,070 in the multi-core test.

The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra performed better than the Realme GT 6, because of its better software optimisation and a few other reasons discussed in the latter section of this comparison.

AnTuTu

In our Antutu test, things took a toss, as the Realme GT 6 took the lead here. It scored consolidated points of 15,01,830, while the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra scored 14,44,591 points in our test.

Since Geekbench evaluates only the CPU and CPU, the Antutu benchmarks test more parameters like Memory and User Experience (UX). Hence, the extra 4GB RAM helped in Realme GT 6 performance, since the CPU can utilise the extra headroom to process more tasks and calculations.

CPU Throttling Test

Next up, we ran the burnout test to evaluate how well the phones hold up under stress. In our test, Realme GT 6’s performance throttled down to 40.5%, with an astonishing performance output score of 828 per watt, which is the highest among other Snapdragon 8s Gen 3-powered phones. It achieved an overall compute score of 49.7.

The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra performed well here. Under stress, its performance dropped to 56.7%, which is the current best among 8s Gen 3-powered phones, at par with POCO F6. It scored 126 points for performance per watt, with an overall compute score of 30.8.

As can be observed in the chat, the Realme GT 6’s overall performance significantly throttles under stress to keep thermals under 40 degrees. The CPU’s performance drops considerably after a few minutes into the test, the GPU also throttles gradually followed by a sudden drop in performance, and the NPU also performed poorly.

While the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra’s CPU performed consistently well after the initial drop, with minor spikes. The GPU’s performance was much better and stable after the initial minor drop, and the NPU also performed considerably well. Another point worth noting is that it crosses the 40-degree slab.

Gaming Performance

Keeping synthetic benchmarks aside, we played these demanding titles on both phones: BGMI, CODM, and Real Racing 3 for thirty minutes per game, to test overall gaming and thermal performance. At our standard settings, here’s the chart of the average frames per second we got.

Both smartphones performed equally well, with no noticeable frame drops, with around 55 FPS in Call of Duty Mobile and Real Racing 3, and BGMI was playable at 35-40 FPS.

After thirty minutes of COD Mobile, the Realme GT 6’s temperature rose by 8.2 degrees, while the Edge 50 Ultra’s temperature increased by 6.1 degrees Celsius. After thirty minutes of Real Racing 3, the temperature increased by 7 degrees and 3.8 degrees. Things turned north to south in BGMI, as Realme 6T’s recorded a temperature rise of a mere 3.9 degrees, and Motorola Edge 50 Ultra recorded an increase of 8.8 degrees. With two points, Motorola comes out as the winner.

Verdict

Based on the above performance tests, despite running on the same chipset, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra emerged as a clear winner because of its better software optimisation, stable performance under stress, and comparatively better overall thermal performance while gaming. On the contrary, the Realme GT 6 excels in raw performance.

However, we would like to highlight that Realme GT 6 carries more potential because of the added advantage of extra RAM. If Realme can put this untapped resource to use, instead of throttling it down, then Realme GT 6 prove to be the better performer.

In a nutshell, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra will perform better for regular basic tasks and video editing. The Realme GT 6 is an underdog that holds its ground in BGMI and delivers better raw performance.
