Saif Ali Khan is among the leading actors in the industry and has been a part of it for many years. However, he married at a young age, tying the knot with Amrita Singh in 1991 when he was just 21, and Amrita was 27 at the time. Despite their efforts to maintain their marriage, the couple eventually divorced after 13 years. But did you know that their divorce ended in an ugly mess?
Shortly after their separation, Saif spoke about the alimony he was required to pay for child support. He revealed that all his earnings were going to his children and mentioned that he had been forced out of his home, which was being occupied by Amrita and her relatives. In a 2005 interview with The Telegraph, Saif shared that he was asked to pay Rs 5 crore to Amrita, half of which he had already paid.
“I’m supposed to give Amrita Rs 5 crore, of which I’ve already given her approximately Rs 2.5 crore. Also, I’m paying Rs 1 lakh per month until my son turns 18. I’m not Shah Rukh Khan. I don’t have that kind of money. I’ve promised her I’ll pay the rest of the amount, and I will, even if I have to work until I drop dead. Whatever I’ve earned from doing ads, stage shows, and films is being given to my children. I’ve no money left. Our bungalow is for Amrita and the kids, and never mind the relatives who’ve joined her after my departure,” he shared.
In the same conversation, Saif revealed that he was constantly reminded of “how terrible a husband I was, and how awful a father I am.” Speaking further about his situation, the actor made a shocking revelation that, during this time, he was also not allowed to meet his kids. The actor said, “I have my son Ibrahim’s photograph in my wallet. Each time I look at it, I feel like crying. I miss my daughter Sara all the time.”
Saif also stated that he was made to feel ‘worthless’ and was constantly subjected to verbal ‘abuse.’ “It isn’t nice to be constantly reminded of how worthless you are and to have taunts, jeers, insults, and abuses thrown at your mother and sister all the time. I’ve gone through all of it,” he said.
Currently, Saif is married to Kareena Kapoor, and the couple shares two sons, Taimur Ali Khan and Jehangir Ali Khan.
