WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A Russian satellite believed to be defunct broke apart in Earth’s orbit on Wednesday night into over 100 pieces of debris, forcing astronauts on the International Space Station to shelter while the cause of the event remains unclear, according to U.S. Space Command and NASA.
