NEET UG 2024 revised result: How does it affect candidates?
According to sources, the 44 students who will no longer be toppers will still be within the rank cohort of 33,000 to 50,000. However, the change in their ranks could impact their chances of securing seats in the government medical colleges of their choice.
Previously, TOI reported that the change in rankings could significantly affect many students, given that over 24 lakh aspirants competed for the 1.08 lakh medical seats available in the country. Out of these, 56,000 seats are in government institutions, which are highly sought after due to their superior infrastructure and lower fees.
What prompted the revision of the NEET UG 2024 merit list?
The merit list needed revision after IIT-Delhi, at the Supreme Court’s direction, confirmed that only one option in the physics paper was correct. Many students had complained that, according to different NCERT books, two of the four options could be considered correct. As only one answer was officially deemed correct, students who had chosen the other option lost five marks (four for the wrong answer and one for a negative mark). This error was expected to significantly impact the ranks of all the exam takers.
