Rayners responds to rumours linking him to Chiefs and Pirates

Stellenbosch striker Iqraam Rayners has responded to rumours linking him to top Premier Soccer League(PSL) such as Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

The 28-year-old scored 15 goals in the DStv Premiership last season. His form has seen him feature more regularly for Bafana Bafana scoring two goals this year. Although he missed the Africa Cup of Nations, the Stellies forward has featured in the national team’s recent 2026 World Cup Qualifers.

Speaking to Sowetan, Rayners said he was unaware of any offers from Chiefs, Pirates or Sundowns.

“I don’t know anything about clubs who want me because that’s the duty of the management… Rob Benadie [Stallenbosch CEO] but I am looking forward to playing in the Caf [Confederation Cup],” he told Sowetan.

“For us, this is a good opportunity to grow as a team and individually I am hoping to gain invaluable experience that can also help me be a better player because I want to keep my place at Bafana as well.

Iqraam Rayners wanted by Chiefs, Pirates and Downs

“Coach Hugo [Broos] believes in me, so I must try by all means to stay consistent and repay his faith by scoring goals, that’s my focus going forward as well,” he said.

Top PSL teams such as Chiefs, Pirates and Sundowns have declared their interest in Rayners. The striker only made his debut for Bafana last year during the Cosafa Cup where he scored his first goal for the national team. He then scored in the 2-all draw in away to Algeria in a friendly two months ago, before managing his second in the 3-1 thumping of Zimbabwe in the World Cup qualifier a fortnight ago.

With Chiefs interested, it looks more likely that Rayners might join either Sundowns or Pirates next season. Both teams are competing in the CAF Champions League.
