Raygun rules out taking part in any reality TV shows after Olympic infamy

Raygun says she has no interest in joining one of the many reality TV shows that have reached out to her.

Rachael ‘Raygun’ Gunn has become hot property in Australia and indeed around the world since her disastrous Olympic breaking performance in Paris earlier this year.

She was pictured with British popstar Boy George, appeared on the front of Stellar magazine, and been the new celebrity that every radio station, newspaper and TV channel wants to speak to.

Many of the opportunities that have opened up for her since unceremoniously scoring zero points in all three of her disastrous breaking battles at the Olympics, she has jumped at — and continues to do so.

But reality TV will not be one of them.

Speaking to Nova radio, the 37-year-old categorically ruled it out.

“There were a lot of reality TV requests,” Raygun said of people who have tried to get in contact with her since Paris.

Speculation has ran rife for months that the breaker would go into the jungle for Ten’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.

She will not do that, she says.

“No, no, I mean, look, as someone that went viral from their performance at the Olympics, I think I’ve got a very memeable face, it’s very expressive. And I just feel like going on reality television… I just feel like going on reality television is just not the right move,” Raygun laughed.

She said a similar thing to Fox FM on Friday.

“Yeah, no, I will not be going into the jungle,” Raygun said.

“I have a very memeable face, as we’ve seen. There’s been some amazing memes that have come out, and I just don’t think reality TV is the space for me.

“So I’m going to focus on things where I can really bring joy and to try and encourage people to be creative.”

Online meme creators and trolls went into overdrive after her Olympic performance — but it’s since gone much further than social media.

She was mocked by an impersonator on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, has had a mini statue made of her infamous “kangaroo hop” dance move, has become a costume party staple, and was even mimicked in the cage at UFC 305.

But speaking last month, Raygun said they’re laughing with her, not at her.

“I’ve got a digital pool room of all the best ones,” she said of the memes, speaking to Stellar magazine after appearing on the front cover.

“My friends were all sending them to me and I loved it. I loved the people laughing with me because, yeah, I was doing some wacky stuff. I know that.”

The breaking lecturer and academic’s life has changed dramatically since that fateful performance in Paris.

Raygun says it’s still hard to fathom the whirlwind the past few months have been.

“It’s been so hard to process,” she said.

“My whole world has changed. My identity has changed. My relationships have changed, for better or for worse.

“It’s in times like these that you find out who your real friends are, unfortunately. And because things are still changing, it’s just impossible to wrap your head around.

“It’s hard to predict what it’s going to be like when I leave the house.

“It’s still a process because I’m having to prioritise my own health.

“I speak to my family when I can, but it’s hard for me to know the toll it’s taken on them because I think that will take a toll on me.”
