Manthan, the 1976 classic was inspired by the pioneering milk cooperative movement. The film starring, late actress Smita Patil and Naseeruddin Shah, was premiered at prestigious gala held at Salle Bunuel.
Cannes 2024: Manthan, directed by Shyam Benegal, debuted on Friday at the 77th Film Festival in the Cannes Classics section. Ratna Pathak Shah, Naseeruddin Shah, and Prateik Babbar attended the screening as they walked the red carpet. ‘Manthan,’ which starred the late actress Smita Patil, is notable for being the only Indian movie selected for this year’s prestigious Cannes Classic division. The ‘Dirty Picture‘ actor chose a cream-coloured sherwani for the special screening. Ratna Pathak, on the other hand, wore her saree and a custom-made blouse. She decided to wear a yellow-coloured saree and a dusty pink blouse to go with it with oxidised jewellery. Prateik arrived in a black suit, accessorised with a scarf that belonged to his late mother Smita Patil.
Film Heritage Foundation dropped pictures of the star cast of Manthan’s red carpet walk. Naseeruddin Shah, his wife, actress Ratna Pathak Shah, actor Prateik Babbar, son of late Smita Patil, and Nirmala Kurien, daughter of Verghese Kurien, are among the guests shown in the photos from the screening. They all appear incredibly happy as they proudly represent India worldwide while posing for photos in traditional attire.
