The business magnate, Ratan Tata has always been successful in everything he put his heart to! One of India’s most renowned industrialists was crucial in building the Tata Group into a 33 lakh crore conglomerate. The Tata Group has a wide range of business interests, including the automotive, aerospace, electric power, hotel, retail IT, and real estate sectors. Did you know he also dabbled in Bollywood film production at one point in his career? In contrast to all of his other ventures, the business mogul’s venture failed. The first and only movie he ever made starred Amitabh Bachchan, John Abraham and Bipasha Basu.

Ratan Tata also attempted to get into the film business in the early 2000s. The Bollywood film, featuring three well-known actors, two of whom were real-life partners, was funded by the billionaire industrialist. Despite the tremendous anticipation, the movie was a box office flop and marked the end of Ratan Tata’s career as a producer.

Aetbaar, a 2004 romantic psychological thriller starring Amitabh Bachchan, John Abraham, Bipasha Basu, and Supriya Pilgaonkar, was co-produced by Ratan Tata. The 1996 Hollywood film Fear, starring Mark Wahlberg, Reese Witherspoon, William Petersen, Alyssa Milano, and Amy Brenneman, served as the inspiration for the Vikram Bhatt-directed picture.

Aetbaar is the story of a protective father Dr Ranveer Malhotra (Amitabh Bachchan), who will stop at nothing to shield his naive daughter Ria Malhotra (Bipasha Basu) from her compulsive lover, Aryan Trivedi (John Abraham). Ranveer discovers Aryan’s terrible past as he continues to delve more into the enigmatic man’s past. But Ria still has feelings for Aryan, and this causes a wedge in the close-knit family. Even though Aetbaar‘s tough writing and outstanding ensemble performance have won praise over time, the movie was a box office flop.

The Amitabh Bachchan film was produced on a budget of Rs 9.50 crore. As per Box Office India, Aetbaar‘s box office earnings of Rs 7.96 crore were not even close to covering its production costs. Ratan Tata’s debut and final production as a producer was Aetbaar.
